Embroidery Floss Storage...

As anyone who embroiders knows...
Threads and Flosses abound !
The colors available are incredible
and I need want them all !!

I wind all of my lighter weight floss onto plastic fobs.
I then label each fob with the color number.

I store all of my Embroidery Floss in Fishing Tackle Boxes.
These tackle boxes were brand new, never used for their intended purpose !
I have two boxes and they both are double sided.
They store a SERIOUS amount of Embroidery Floss. ;)
The tackle boxes measure 15in. x 11.5in. x 5in.
(38.10cm x 29.21cm x 12.70cm).
I simply removed the dividers and filled the rows
with my plastic fobs of Embroidery Floss.

When I begin a project, I pull the colors I need and place them on a ring to work from.  When the project is complete I return the colors to the tackle box.

One of the tackle boxes has a "secret" compartment.
I must have had the case for years before I accidentally found it !
It can store extra floss, book rings, needles, etc.

My only complaint ??
I wish the tackle boxes came in snazzy colors. ;)

(Large Sporting Goods stores handle aisles of Fishing Tackle Boxes
to choose from.  I highly recommend taking a plastic fob with you
so you can determine which box will meet your needs.)

  1. Back in the 80's I did a LOT of counted cross stitch, but haven't touched it since then. All the embroidery floss is just sitting there waiting for me to put it to some wool! YAY! And at the time, I had several plastic boxes with dividers, and the floss fobs lay on their long edge, so all the colors are visible! I love it! It's like looking into a candy store! lol

  2. Hi Regan...
It seems EVERYONE was doing counted cross stitch in the 80's !

I love the idea of seeing the colors...great idea.

It sounds like it is time to bring it all out again along with some wool. ;)

  4. I have that exact box, and thought it was too ugly for crafting. Here's what I'm working on doing to it. http://www.flickr.com/photos/85847426@N03/8215084437/in/photostream and I will use envirotex lite when I'm done

  5. I like those plastic fobs ... I've only seen (and have) the cardboard ones, which are smaller. Great idea to use the tackle box.
