If I Could Save Time In A Bottle...

Over the years...
Each time a watch was "discarded" in our home,
I threw it into a jar.  There were numerous reasons why
any one of us no longer wanted to wear our watches.
Styles change, on occasion a few simply didn't work anymore,
or kids grew up and wanted a more mature style.

Into the jar they were tossed and now time is ticking away in a jar.

If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that I'd like to do
Is to save every day
Till Eternity passes away
Just to spend them with you.
"Time In A Bottle" - Songwriter: Jim Croce

Amazingly, some of the batteries are still going !
(And yet, when you really want the battery to last,
you don't even get a year from it...go figure !)

I enjoy going through this jar...
I lovingly handle each watch and think back to who it belonged to
and what year they wore it...  it's a trip down memory lane.

A collection I never meant to start,
but somehow just appeared one day.

  1. Good Evening Rose, Who would have thought your collection of watches would have grown so much. I love the song, Time in a bottle by Jim Croche...do you know, I still have his LP tucked away in the garage....I just can't bear to give away my LP's, so like your watches, they have grown and grown, but they do not have a use.
    Have a lovely weekend.
    Best Wishes

  2. I love this! I haven't worn a watch in probably 25 years! (I wonder if I still have any of them that I used to wear. Hmmmm.) I always remembered my mother never wore watches, and when I asked her once, she said, "I don't want my life controlled by a watch." I thought it was so profound, that I stopped wearing one then, too. I figured there were plenty of clocks around enough to keep me from being late!

A few years ago, I was with my DIL at Tiffany's, and she was buying a watch for herself. I thought it was the most ridiculous (and expensive) purchase she could ever make! Of course, I didn't say that! lol

And now that I think of it, I used to work with a bunch of ladies (back in the 80's), and they all had collections of watches, dozens of them, one for every outfit! They would match them to shoes and purses and jewelry. They weren't fancy or expensive, just a fun little bit of color or style. Too funny!

  3. I too have a collection of watches placed here and there and wonder how many I'd have if I rounded them all up. Heck, what's old is new again so maybe there is something in my stash that I'd like to put another battery in and wear. Just might have to so in search of TIME. Oh, and I DO remember that song well by Jim Croce.

  4. What a neat idea, keeping them. I bet someday you will find the perfect way to repurpose them!
