Let's Talk Crickets...Dozens Of Crickets !

Sometime ago I wrote about my Son's
He is gentle and loving and...
eats live crickets.

Okay, let's talk about those crickets...
This is the cricket container.
Crickets love to hide.
The two black tubes are perfect hiding places
for dozens and dozens of crickets.
When you want to feed Doo-Rock -
you just remove one of the tubes and shake
out a couple crickets.

This cricket container can hold
SEVERAL DOZENS of crickets...
we're talking 50 + crickets here !

There is also a piece of cardboard egg carton
in the cricket container.
Crickets hide in it's crevices by the dozens.
(yuck !)

But wait, did you notice there are only two
crickets in this container ????
I'll bet you think they are hiding in the tubes
or maybe comfortably tucked away
under the egg carton ??

Oh, I wish this were true !
One of my kids dropped the container
and ALL of the crickets are now resting
comfortably in the crevices of my home !!
(I won't say which daughter or son,
because I didn't actually see it happen
and no one is fessing up !)

They are resting comfortably,
by day...
the night is a different story !!

They only come out at night...
(sounds like a horror movie !)

Actually it sounds like a 'camp out'
at night.  They sing and chirp like it
was a mid summer's night ;)

Just another day at our humble home ;)

  1. Oh No!! Oh gosh, how many times did that happen here. :) I hope you find them all. I think though it is a nice happy sound.
Just not lots of them. I remember having to pick them up with my hand because, sometimes it is hard to find crickets so it is very important to save them all. :) That really is a beautiful lizard.
    You are a great mom!!!

  2. What a great story. Happy it happened to you and not me.
One time, though, the #1 bad boy's snake got out. He wasn't home. Called his friend who found it. Next time it escaped it was never to be found again.
    Hugs :)

  3. Oh my, what a situation. I'm sorry Rose but I couldn't help but laugh out loud. You think crickets at night are a peaceful sound but not when you imagine them running loose in the house.

I hope all is back to normal soon.

  4. Oh no..
I'm afraid I've been there and done that.
    But with my daughters iguana.
It seemed to go on forever.
    Woolie Hugs

  5. Hi Rose,

Forgive me for laughing! I'm such a bug lover - I'd be content with all the chirping. I don't know if you know it, but having a cricket on the hearth is supposed to bring good luck. When I was growing up, my grandmother would always comment about expecting good luck if she heard a cricket in her house. Try googling "cricket on the hearth good luck" to see the history of this little saying. Hope the chorus settles down before long!

  6. After many adventures with my sons during their growing years I have to say I think you might have won the "tolerant Mother of the year" contest with this one!
