Piecing Wool Pinwheels...

Punch Needle and Wool Applique by Rose Clay at Three Sheep Studio

Assembling wool pieces...
what will work...what needs moved...
what needs tossed out.
Lots of trimming, shaping and plenty of
"No, that won't work !"

The result is a long wool table runner.
46 inches long x 8 inches wide

The center of this table runner is
a punch needle design, 'Primitive Pinwheels'.
I was looking for an interesting finish...
something I could take with me to a show or two this year.

I duplicated the pinwheels in wool fabric to match
the punch needle design...

added leaves with just a bit of Feather stitch,
topped off with a few red French knots
in the center of each Pinwheel.

Valdani Perle Cotton was used throughout this project

The edges are finished with a Blanket Stitch.

We are anticipating a snow storm arriving
on Friday into Saturday.

Groceries have been stocked...
(Goodness knows we have to have good food,
if we are to be gathered together for days.)
The snow blower stands 'at the ready'...
Hot Chocolate, with extra marshmallows
awaits the 'snowman builders' and sledders...
The bird feeder is full...
and most importantly, stitching projects are
ready and waiting, to pass the time.

  2. Beautiful runner. I've retrieved the snow shovels from the shed and getting ready for the nor'easter storm as well. Not looking forward to it but getting ready for it. Do have to run out for one more thing today and will have batteries, candles, and even have two solar illuminating inflatable lights charging up just in case.

  4. I LOVE THIS! So clever to use the same design for needle punch and applique - it would be great hooked too! I know you call them pinwheels, but I keep thinking they're boomerangs! LOL

  6. What a great project. Combining two styles is brilliant! Also ready for Snowmageddon here, I don't think we will get it as bad as you but stay warm, cuddle up and stitch!

  7. Please be safe during this storm.
    Its so scary to watch.
We were iced in for 7 days but thankfully we had wood heat.

Love your design and combined technique. I'm just finishing up a hooked pillow and wallhanging.

    Blessings,
    Cheryl

  8. What a beautiful table runner! Such a clever technique to duplicate the design in 2 mediums.

I hope the impending storm goes easy on your area, although the idea of being snowed in sounds very appealing if you're safe and have something to to craft.
    Warm Regards, Lisa
