Vintage Handkerchiefs are beautiful.
It always amazes me
how much stitching work was placed into
one small linen or cotton square,
(to dab tears or wipe noses) !
This particular one is edged in tatting.
I have always wanted to learn tatting.
There just are not enough hours in the day
to accomplish all I dream of.
We eat outside a lot in the summer.
Grilling, picnics and campfires...
When taking a pitcher of drink outside,
it always attracts bugs.
(I know, I could use individual drinks,
but that's no fun. I love seeing the fresh
fruit floating around - refreshing !)
I use a Vintage Handkerchief
to cover the pitcher to keep the bugs at bay.
It works like a charm.
I sew small shells,
(that we collected while at the beach),
to the corners. The shells keep the handkerchief
weighted down - easy to take off and
just as easy to put back on.

What a great idea, I have some of those lovely things that I wish I learned to do as well. I never thought about attaching shells that would look so pretty.

Great idea, Rose! And if you're interested, there's a gal, RustiKate, on Utube doing needle-tatting videos.....and they're great! I've never shuttle tatted, but learned needle tatting years ago, and her videos are very clear and easy to follow....and you can do it with a doll needle! Easy! :o)
