"Indian Summer"...
an unexpected warm spell during the Autumn months.
I decided to finish this punch needle design
into a smallish wool cushion.
I used a Beaded Blanket Stitch,
with mustard glass beads on the edges.
I placed a random zig zag stitch of hand embroidery
around the edge of the design,
using Valdani variegated Perle Cotton Thread.
This design would also look nice finished
onto a bread board
or the front of an old book.
Welcoming Autumn, with colors of an Indian Summer...
bittersweet, pokeberry, white pumpkins
gorgeous shades of fallen leaves
and a deep blue Autumn sky.
and a deep blue Autumn sky.
The "Indian Summer" Mixed Media Pattern,
(Punch Needle and Wool Applique)
Valdani Thread Bundles for this pattern
are also available.
I am grateful for all of the wonderful friends
who support and encourage me !
As a Thank You, I will be giving away an
"Indian Summer" Pattern.

GINGERBREAD!!! Maybe more of a Christmas item for some, but many afternoons we would come home from school to a hot pan of homemade gingerbread. Mom made the best & I carried on the tradition with my girls. As an adult I learned to appreciate other toppings on gingerbread such as lemon sauce or brandy sauce, but as a child, a slab of butter was perfect. There was nothing like coming in the door to that warm, spicy aroma & my sweet Mom. Love love the new pattern!!!!
ReplyDeleteI have to tell you two favorites: Pumpkin bread and apple cider. If I must pick only one, I'll say the pumpkin bread because I make it for my grandkids who love it. I also love your new piece with the punchneedle and applique combined.

such a beautiful pillow! love how you finished it!! I make a cake called Pennsylvania Dutch Apple Muffin Cake. The recipe came from a Country Living cookbook from the early 80's. I make it every year. You make it in a souffle dish. Perfect for dessert or breakfast. I only make it in the fall because I buy local apples. If you would like the recipe I can send it to you.

ReplyDeleteLove all your work; this pillow is beautiful art!
We have an old apple tree in our yard which the deer love as much as we do. But there are always a few left for us. I know when it's pickin' time because I awake to the beautiful smell of cinnamon when hubby makes his first apple crisp. He's such an early bird and I'm the night owl who sleeps a little later. So this is his fall suprise for me and it's wonderful in many ways. It's the ONLY thing he will attempt to bake and it is heavenly warm out of the oven. :-)
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful Rose. I love all of the extras you put on this. I would love to be entered into your sweet contest. I hope you have a lovely day.
ReplyDeleteOh I have to say homemade apple pie a la mode with lots of good cinnamon inside...yummy...thanks for the chance--I've never tried punch needle but would like to add it to my crafts....hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteRose there are so many choices you made for this project that I admire, the white with just a hint of orange for the pumpkin. The soft blue sky, the hand stitched zigzag, and the beaded buttonhole stitch that brings it all together. I've never seen real poke berry but I imagine them thanks to you.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to be the lucky winner, thanks for the chance.
Oh and I just ordered your "beginner" kit --I can see myself in front of the fireplace this winter learning how to dothis--looks like fun!! hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteHi Rose, your Indian summer pillow is beautiful! I would be delighted to win it! My favorite fall food is going to the farmers market with all the fall goodness and buying fresh apples and making apple cake for my family, the house smells so comforting with cinnamon apple yumminess. ReplyDeleteYour pumpkin pillow is absolutely adorable -- LOVE the added embellishments. You've taken needle punch to a whole new level!!!! When I think of fall foods, I immediately go back to my childhood when the smell of cinnamon was always present in my Mom's kitchen. There were 3 Golden Delicious apple trees in the backyard, which kept her busy once they ripened. She'd make applesauce, apple cakes, cinnamon apple bars & (my favorite) fried cinnamon apples! Whenever fried cinnamon apples were on the menu, so were her baked pork chops. Makes me want to serve that tonight for dinner. . .!! Thanks for taking me down memory lane this morning & for giving me the chance to win your adorable needle punch pattern!
