The Eight Pointed Civil War Pincushion...
My hands have been busy gathering lovely
textures and colors of wool fabric
and stitching, stitching, stitching !
Each pincushion is topped with
hand cut wool pennies and 'Penny Pins'.
These Civil War Pincushions are filled with
crushed walnut shells. They have some weight to them
and are fairly large...
'tip to tip' they are 8.5 in. x 3.5 in. high.

After making a few, I did some research on
the 'Eight Pointed Civil War Pincushion'.
While they have been made for many generations,
I was not able to find any authentic reference in
any reenactor periodicals or written historic information,
regarding any civil war significance.
It has been written that is is "likely" that stitchers of the
Civil War era created these pincushions from remnants
of fabric and used 'buckshot' to fill them.
Even if it is only 'likely' they were made
during the early 1860's, I still love their
Excellent work with gorgeous colors. Your work is impeccable!

Love the pincushions Rose. I have been making them for friends for about fifteen years. Mine are slightly different. I got the pattern out of Early American Life magazine. Fun to make, but a little hard on my old fingers. Your colors are wonderful.
