My latest "find" is Vintage Handkerchiefs at Yard Sales...
Love, Love, Love how dainty and almost forgotten these treasures are !
They are so inexpensive and can usually be had for a mere 10 cents or a quarter.
As soon as I get them home, I soak them in a sink with dish soap
for about an hour, rinse them and then place them on a towel
and roll the towel tight to remove excess water.

They are then ironed and rolled onto a cardboard tube,
which keeps them wrinkle free until I am ready to use them.

Some of the Handkerchiefs have tatting,
crochet edging or hand embroidery on them.

My favorite use for these Handkerchiefs is to use them
to top my canned goods, when I give them as gifts.

Canned Cherries, Peaches, Spiced Pears...
all topped with a Vintage Handkerchief.
Have a beautiful day...

Good Morning Rose, This is such a lovely way to use vintage handkerchiefs. I love the idea of keeping them rolled in a cardboard tube until you are ready to use them.
ReplyDeleteI have a number of elderly relatives who I make jams and marmalades for and the aunts would love to receive a gift with a handkerchief used as a pretty cover, as they are all from the generation of women who used cotton hankies.
Thank you for this lovely idea.
Best Wishes
Daphne
I too love hankies.
ReplyDeletePurchased one recently with chickens I am going to frame.
Woolie Blessings
What a lovely idea....I must check out my local vintage store and see what they have. Yard sales would be fun too!
ReplyDeleteI have quite a collection of vintage hankies as well. I've used them to put on vintage-look dolls I made and frankly use some. My grandmother used hankies all the time and each time I use one it remind me of her.
ReplyDeleteSadly the ones not in use are folded and would need to be re-ironed it I got the urge to use them in a craft.
Great post.

That is a lovely idea. I have a trunk as well as a couple of drawers with all kinds of hand made linens and yes, lovely little handkerchiefs. I take them out and look at them and they always make me take a walk down memory lane.
ReplyDeleteThanks.

ReplyDeleteMy Mom had a handkerchief box full, that my 2 daughter now own!!
Like you said there are a lot of them out there, and they have such lovely handwork to them !

ReplyDeleteHandkerchiefs always remind me of my grandmother. She always carried a hankie.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea! Yummy and beautiful at the same time. Can't ask for more than that. Thank you for taking the time to put this post together. Your photos are wonderful. I learned something new and will be back.
ReplyDeleteKind Regards,
Lorri
