This gorgeous Gray Stripe wool
is called Wall Street.
I purchased it from The Wool Studio.
Wish I would have bought a whole bolt of it !
It is so soft and has a beautiful drape.
Pairs beautifully with all of the
stormy shades, blacks and grays,
that I already have in my stash.
I'm thinking pennies...
lots of wool pennies.
I use a REALLY simple method
to (cut my wool pennies).
For this project, I used an
old baby food jar lid, a 50 cent piece
and a dime.
Arranging the large pennies
onto my Gray Stripe wool...
Layering the pennies,
next is the medium size...
Finally the dime size wool penny,
centered on top.
Making sure I like the arrangement as is,
or moving around pieces until it suits.
I will then use a dab of fabric adhesive
under each wool penny to hold it in place.
Then the process begins...
Blanket stitching the bottom penny first,
then the medium penny
and lastly the small top penny.
Some stitch their stack of pennies
together and then attach the stack to the backing.
I have found by stitching all the wool pennies
to the backing, the pennies lay smoother,
(no puffy pennies) and it makes for
a more durable product.
This is a Penny Rug I made in 2016.
I stitched all the pennies
to the backing, one by one.
I keep it on my Dining Room table.
It has been washed twice and air dried.
I then take a warm iron to the back.
It continues to lay flat and
is no worse for the wear.
Reminds me of Black Licorice !
