"Penny" refers to a round circle of wool,
traditionally cut using coins or a "penny" as a template.
These circles were a wonderful way to use scraps of wool
to "make something from nothing".
These Penny Rugs measure 7.5in. (19.05cm) round.
Penny Rugs can be used as candle mats or as a "coaster"
to set your mug of coffee or hot chocolate on, as shown...
When working with wool, I save all of my "scraps", even the very small pieces, and store them in a box. Scraps are perfect for making penny rugs, because even those very small pieces can be made into pennies.
These are sweet....and nice change from the regular mug rugs I've been quilting! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous. I love the colours and the stitching you do. Visiting from Sew Many Ways
ReplyDeleteJust visiting from FaFF and I just had to comment, because these are so adorable . I love finding uses for scraps.
ReplyDeleteI love these penny rug mats! I don't sew with wool but I wish I did! I want to practice hand stitches and this would be a fun project. I will have to see if I can find anyone who has wool scraps.
